How to Make Heels Comfortable

1. ANTI-BLISTER BALMS/DEODORANT

Roll transparent Blister Balm or Deodorant on any area of your foot to prevent chafing, rubbing and blisters. Don’t forget the straps, it will help the shoe to glide rather than rub against your skin by instantly forming an invisible barrier between you and your shoes to help prevent shoe rubbing and friction which can cause blisters.

2. TAPE YOUR TOES

I know, it sounds crazy, but it works. Taping your third and fourth toes together (counting from the big toe) will help with the pain as there is a nerve there that contributes to foot pain. Stress on the nerve is alleviated when supported by the other toe.

3. FROZEN WATER HACK

If your shoes are too tight, fill a zip lock bag halfway with water and place the bag inside the shoe. Put the shoe in the freezer overnight to stretch your show. While you can buy shoe stretcher or use a cobbler to have your shoes stretched, the frozen water hack works and is great when you need it done quickly.

4. WALK DIFFERENTLY

I have said this so often, there’s a way to walk in flats and there’s a way to strut in heels. To avoid pain requires you to carry yourself differently, your posture is critical in getting that flawless float as you walk down the street. Stand up straight and feel your core, use your hips and legs to propel yourself forward. Never look down in front of you to see where your going as it unbalances you, look ahead with tummy in, shoulders back. It should feel more like a bounce than a normal stride. Practice at home until it is natural and you don’t have to think about it.

When wearing heels, put your heel down first, followed by your toe. This will make your walk look more natural.

5. USE GEL INSERTS

All shoes feel comfy in the store. But if you’re like me and carry a bit of weight, I really start to feel that in my feet over time. Silicone gel inserts designed specifically for heels go right under the balls of your feet to protect them from all of that standing. I have these is so many of my shoes and they work. Interestingly one fell out of my wedge boots and I kept wearing them. I thought these boots were so comfy and I could wear them all day. Ended up that it was the gel insert doing all the work, the foot with the insert I didn’t even notice, the foot missing the insert hurt and annoyed me all day. I’m converted!!
